Shifting to Green Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Harmful Chemicals Present In Cleaning Products
Phthalates
Found in: Air Fresheners and Dish Soaps.
Inhalation of phthalates causes severe endocrine disruptors and also triggers migraine and asthma.
Healthier Choice: Use essential oils or simply open windows to freshen the air. Also add more plants to your home. They are natural air detoxifiers.
Triclosan
Found in: Most liquid dish washing detergents and hand soaps
Large concentration of triclosan is found in lakes and rivers which are toxic to algae.
Healthier Choice: Use Alcohol based hand sanitizers and select simple detergents. Avoid antibacterial products.
Quarternary Ammonium Compounds (QUATS)
Found In: Most Household cleaners labelled antibacterial.
QUATS are culprits for Respiratory Disorders
Healthier Choice: Alternative to chemical disinfectants including Anti Bacterial, Anti Fungal is to mix a few drops of tea tree oil and a tablespoon of vinegar with 100ml of water with couple of drops of lavender essential oil for scent can be used as all purpose cleaner.
Chlorine
Found In: Toilet Bowl Cleaners scouring powders and whiteners and in household tap water.
We are exposed through fumes of chlorine and also through skin because city water also contains chlorine. It is respiratory irritant at acute level but chronic effect is very serious. It is thyroid disruptor.
Healthier Choice: For scrubbing purposes use baking soda. Use Vinegar to clean Toilet Bowls. Vinegar and Borax powder both work well for whitening clothes. To reduce your exposure to chlorine through tap water installs filters.
But I can’t save the world on my own alone!
Nobody can, and that is not the point of this article. If one single person changes their use of cleaning products, makes sure to use only natural eco-friendly solution, the impact will be minimal. But it will be less chemicals and less harm to the environment, than it would otherwise have been. And if more people do the same, if we change our way of using cleaning products as a society, we can have a huge positive impact on our environment, cleaning our homes and making sure that flora and fauna can flourish at the same time.
It is correctly quoted by Helen Keller
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
